Our philosophy

What we do

FiaFia GmbH was founded in mid-2019 by Ravi and Paul Böhler to offer an inexpensive alternative to the disposable plastic drinking straws. What Ravi recognized early on in his 10-year hospitality experience as a bartender and bar manager has recently emerged as a global straw problem. We were looking for alternatives that are as natural and sustainable as possible. Apart from plastic and paper, there were hardly any alternatives to the disposable drinking straws. After extensive research and product tests, rice and tapioca flour combined have the best and most suitable properties for drinking straws. Rice and tapioca are naturally tasteless and gluten-free. Our straws are made in Malaysia, a country where rice and tapioca are grown.

Why we do it

Against environmental pollution:
• Because we know that plastic is a big enemy of nature and animals.
• Our straws can be used as feed and fertilizer after use.

How we do it

Manufacture of rice straws:
• Our drinking straws consist only of water, rice and tapioca (cassava)
• Like pasta, these ingredients are mixed, kneaded, pressed and dried.
(this process keeps them stable and durable)
• In the production of white rice, a lot of rice flour is a by-product that can be used ideally for our drinking straws.


• Rice and tapioca are naturally gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan.


An alternative for single-use plastic:
• To date, plastic and paper drinking straws are mainly available on the single-use market.
• Our novel rice straws are inexpensive and sustainable.

Size & Manufacture

Our standard drinking straws have a diameter of 6.5mm and a length of 20cm. Other forms of drinking straws can also be pressed.

Durability & Raw materials

They are dimensionally stable and tasteless in cold drinks for 4 to 6 hours and in hot drinks for 0.5 to 2 hours. Only water, rice and tapioca (cassava, Kasawa) are used as raw materials.

Quality & Sustainability

Straw production is subject to strict quality controls and is carried out according to HALAL regulations. Our packaging and glue are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the straw change the taste of the drink?

The drinking straws are completely tasteless and do not change the taste of the drink even after several hours.

How long does the straw last in the drink?

They are dimensionally stable in cold drinks for 4 to 6 hours and in hot drinks for 0.5 to 2 hours.

Why rice? That's food waste!

Rice and cassava (tapioca) are naturally gluten-free, vegan and lactose-free. Since we could also eat our product, this cannot be called food waste. Our drinking straws are both food for animals and fertilizer in nature.

Can you also eat the straws?

Like other starchy foods, small amounts can be eaten raw, but larger amounts should be cooked or fried.

Are there any other additives besides rice and tapioca (manjok)?

NO, only water is added to make the straws.
